Get to know Rochester Rattlers Midfielder John Ranagan

July 28, 2017
ROCHESTER, NY (July 28, 2017): We continue our Q&A series with veteran John Ranagan (John Hopkins). John is having another solid season for the Rochester Rattlers. He scored four goals against the Denver Outlaws on Thursday.

Name: John Ranagan
Position: Midfield
College: John Hopkins
Number: 31

Check out John’s answers below:

Q: What are your thoughts on playing for the Rattlers and the 2017 season so far?
A: As always, it has been a lot of fun playing for the Ratz! I think most of us thought the first 3 games after returning from the NLL season would have gone different, but we’ve responded with 2 good wins and are looking forward to playing a very good Atlanta team this weekend.

Q: Big wins vs the Boston Cannons and the Denver Outlaws last week, talk about the play of the offense?
A: The offense has been coming along all season and it was great to put together 2 solid outings vs Boston and Denver. We wanted to focus on sharing the ball and dodging from all areas of the field, which I think we did well in the last 2 games. Wolfie is the best player in the game right now so obviously losing him hurt on Thursday night, but I am very impressed with the way other guys were able to step up in his absence.

Q: Favorite pre-game music to listen to?
A: Whatever our DJ Blazey is playing.

Q: What has impressed you most about the rookies on the team this season (Conor, Zed, Ryan, Eric, etc)?
A: Our rookies have played exceptional this year. Most of the current roster was drafted by Roch and it speaks to Coach Soudo’s trust in playing rookies. We have kept that mindset and have just tried to support the rookies any way we can. Every player that comes into this league is extremely talented, so what has impressed me the most is the mental mindset our rookies have. They are playing big roles on the team and will continue to the rest of the season.

Q: What is your favorite activity outside of lacrosse?
A: I was a big skier growing up and enjoy any time I can get out on the mountain.

Q: As a veteran in the MLL, what do you enjoy most about playing in the league?
A: Everything about the Rochester Rattlers. I’ve been fortunate enough to stay on one team for my entire career, and it’s an honor and privilege to be a part of this team.

Q: Who do you look up to currently and why?
A: My parents will always be my biggest role models. They have taught me so much in life but the two most important things I’ve taken from them is their work ethic and how to treat others.

Q: What is the one thing that you need on a daily basis?
A: I’ve become pretty addicted to coffee since college, so probably my morning cup before the day starts.

Q: What was the best advice you were ever given?
A: Be undeniable.

Q: Favorite place to eat before a game in Rochester?
A: Dibella’s Subs – a family tradition since 1918!
