Leveille awarded Warrior Offensive Player of the Week

March 18, 2016
BOSTON, MA (June 9, 2014)  Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Week 6’s Warrior Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week and the Cascade Rookie of the Week today. This week, Kevin Leveille was awarded honors for his offensive efforts in helping the Rochester Rattlers defeat the Chesapeake Bayhawks in double overtime.

Leveille did more than merely help his team defeat the reigning Steinfeld Trophy champions; he led the Rochester Rattlers to an 8-7 victory over the Bayhawks with a hat trick in a game that went into double overtime—the first ever extra-extra time game in Major League Lacrosse history. That’s not the only fashion in which the Thursday game was historical, though. Leveille not only earned a hat trick that evening, he also netted the game winning goal on the man-advantage for his second power play goal on the game. In doing so, he was able to earn the number one spot in all-time goals, overtaking predecessor Tim Goettleman now with 271. The two top-shooters are now tied for career game winning goals at 14.

When asked to comment about the honor of having his name on the top of the all-time goals list, Leveille replied humbly “Certainly, I knew the potential was there to break the record, but you have to take it one game at a time. With the level of competition in the league this season, you have to be focused on making the right plays to set yourself and your team up to win. That was what was on my mind first and foremost; it just unfolded about as well as it possibly could…which was fun.”

The OT win now has Rochester tied with the Florida Launch for second place in the league standings with a record of 4-2.  The Rattlers hold the upper hand as they defeated the Launch on Sunday, June 2 nd 18-11 as Leveille also recorded a hat trick in that contest.  The black and gold maintain an undefeated record at home in Sahlens Stadium.

As it pertains to the Rattlers roster and potential this season, Leveille added “Our team is really starting to take shape and we’re starting to find our identity. What I notice most about this year versus others is that we’re taking care of our business at each level of the field.  Each segment has been really strong and we’ve been able to lean on each other at times when in need of some big plays.”  Speaking about the new players coming in from the college ranks, Leveille stated “When you add in some monster talent at the rookie level with guys like Thompson, Locascio, Cockerton and now Wolf, we’ve got some momentum going.  It’s exciting but we have to remain focused and take it one game at a time. I’m confident that we’ll do so."

Rochester visits the Ohio Machine this coming Saturday, June 14 th for an early evening start time of 5:30 pm.  They will then travel to Boca Raton, Florida to take on the Launch on June 20 th, starting at 7:30pm.  The Rattlers will return home on Sunday, June 29 th to face the Denver Outlaws at 1:00 pm in downtown Rochester.
