Motivated "Ratz" rack up awards, wins & 1st place

March 18, 2016
ROCHESTER, NY (July 7, 2014)  The Rochester Rattlers started the season in the cellar of the MLL Power Rankings, and now 10 weeks later are at the top of the heap.  That kind of turnaround will yield some game by game accolades, and that has come in spades for the players in black and gold.  So far through 10 games, the Rattlers have garnered 7 Coca Cola Player of the Game awards (Galloway-3, Wolf-2, Leveille-1, Cockerton-1) and 7 MLL Player of the Week awards (Manley/Defensive-2, Wolf/Rookie-2, Locascio/Rookie-1, Leveille/Offensive-1, Cockerton/Rookie-1).

That kind of success rests on the fact that Rochester has put together an offensive attack that has yet to be consistently matched, along with exceptional defensive play and a goalie that makes standing on his head a nightly ritual.  All of these pieces fit into a puzzle formed in the mold of team unity, leadership, youth and a locker room atmosphere that demands respect and admiration from each member.  It’s the perfect storm of individual accomplishment meeting a team first attitude, ending in an unlikely and impressive story.

The Rattlers (7-3) are now tied for first place with Denver, and have their eye on the prize (an MLL Championship) but their minds on the next game at hand.  On Thursday, July 17 th they take on defending champs and last place Chesapeake Bayhawks (3-7) in Annapolis, MD.  The Bayhawks are a scary and talented team that hasn’t had much luck this season, and Rochester has to have their guard up and be ready for a battle to keep pace with their place in the standings.

Most athletes agree that all of the awards and wins really won’t mean much if the task at hand isn’t seen through to the end.  A successful and pleasantly surprising tale so far, the Ratz just have to continue to march forward and keep exceeding all of the expectations from Week 1.  The perfect mix of talent, ideology and attitude is what great teams are truly made from, and the Rochester Rattlers have all of those qualities and more.  Stay tuned as the season progresses and this feel good story continues...

Rochester will return home to Sahlens Stadium on Saturday, July 26that 7 pm to take on the visiting Charlotte Hounds for the Rattlers’ “HOT SUMMER SATURDAY NIGHT.”  Doors open at 6pm and tickets can be purchased by logging onto or going to the Sahlen’s Stadium box office.  Call (585) 340-6905 for more information or follow us on Facebook or Twitter @RattlersLax.
