March 18, 2016
BOSTON, Mass. – Chicago Machine attackman Ned Crotty has been named as the 2010 Cascade Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Rookie of the Year, it has been announced by MLL officials.

Crotty is the first Chicago player to earn the award in the team’s five-year history.

The Machine’s third-leading scorer, Crotty led all MLL rookies this season with 24 points in seven games. He scored 11 goals with 13 assists, which ranked seventh in the MLL.

After being held to just two points in his first two games, Crotty exploded for two goals and three assists in the Machine’s June 25 victory over Denver at Marina Auto Stadium. The following week, he tallied a season-high four assists in the Machine’s overtime loss against Long Island.

On July 10, he recorded the first “hat trick” of his professional career in the Machine’s loss against the Lizards at Columbus Crew Stadium.

Crotty, who helped Team USA to the gold medal at the FIL World Championships, returned to the Machine lineup on July 31 and recorded a season-high six points by scoring two goals with four assists at Chesapeake.
He ended the season last week with a three-goal, one-assist performance against Denver in an 18-8 setback at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

A two-time selection as MLL Rookie of the Week, Crotty was tied for 19th in the league in points.

After leading Duke University to a 16-4 record and the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse championship, Crotty was selected as the first overall pick in the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft. The fourth-leading scorer in Blue Devil men’s lacrosse history, Crotty finished his career with 239 points. He ranks second in school history with 147 career assists, including 118 assists over his final two years.

A three-time United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America selection, Crotty earned first team All-America notice for the second straight season in 2010. One of six players in school history to earn first team All-America honors twice, Crotty led Duke with 86 points as a senior, scoring 23 goals with a school-record 63 assists. He led the nation with a 3.15 assist per game average while ranking fourth in the nation by averaging 4.3 points per game.

The Machine ended the season with a 4-8 record, setting a team record for wins in a season.
