The Rochester Rattlers host the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday August 6 th at 7PM in Sahlen’s Stadium.  The Rattlers enter the game with a 2-2 record under first-year coach Tim Soudan, but were officially eliminated from Championship Weekend with their 15-6 loss in Long Island last Thursday.  The Bayhawks have lost their last two games in a row, but are still in the thick of the playoff hunt with a 5-5 record.  If Chesapeake wins Saturday night in Rochester and on August 13 th against Denver they will be assured of a spot in Championship Weekend on August 27 th and 28 th in Annapolis.

Coach Soudan will begin looking toward the future this weekend and he has plenty of young talent on the Rattlers roster to build around.  Goalie John Galloway (Syracuse), attack Jordan McBride (Stony Brook), and Rochester native Grant Catalino (Maryland) have already been named the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week.  Rookie defender Joel White (Syracuse) is second in MLL with 62 ground balls.  “They have young studs.  Guys like John Galloway, Joel White, you can’t forget about Ned Crotty, and Grant Catalino at the attack.  They are about a year or two away” MLL analyst Paul Carcaterra said.

Ned Crotty continued his campaign to be named the Bud Light Player of the Year last week.  He recorded one goal and had two assists for three points in the Rattlers loss to the Lizards. On the season Crotty is fourth in MLL in goals (22) and is tied for first in assists (19) and points (41).  “Crotty is showing his versatility this season.  You know about him as a feeder but he’s also a strong dodger and playmaker.  I like the future for Rochester when you’re building it around a guy like Ned Crotty” Carcaterra said.

Chesapeake enters the game on a two-game losing streak where they have only scored a combined 14 goals.  The Bayhawks attack is led by Danny Glading (19G – 15A) and Ben Rubeor (16G – 8A) with support from Ben Hunt (16G – 4A) in the midfield.  Defensive middie Matt Abbott (5G-2A, 45GBs) is a presence in midfield while goalie Brian Phipps is 2-0 against the Rattlers this year with 21 goals-against and 34 saves.

The Rattlers will be hosting Fan Appreciation night on Saturday.  Gates open at 5:30PM with dollar drafts at the pre-game party.  Smash-hit local recording artist Tinted Image will be providing the pre-game party entertainment.  The Rattlers will be auctioning off their game worn white jerseys in a silent auction during the game.  There will be a variety of other prizes and special giveaways throughout the night.
