March 18, 2016

The Rochester Rattlers return to Sahlen’s Stadium on Sunday, June 30 th, at 3:00 PM EST. for their first home game since June 2 nd to take on the New York Lizards for their first meeting this year.

The last time the Rattlers were at home, Rochester defeated the Ohio Machine 9-7, led by a three-goal effort from midfielder Jordan MacIntosh. Sunday will be Rochester’s third true home game this year. “We’re really looking forward to it,” said Head Coach Tim Soudan. “It will feel good to have some friendly faces in the crowd.”

Rochester and New York battled twice last year, which the Rattlers winning in both meetings. In the first contest, Rochester defeated the Lizards 13-8 on July 6 th, with MacIntosh leading the way with four goals. Rochester also won their next meeting the very next day on July 7 th with a score of 17-15, with Ned Crotty and Steven Boyle each tallying five points in the contest.

The Rattlers return home after their second loss in a row, falling 17-11 to Hamilton on Saturday, June 22 nd, and will need a strong effort on Sunday to earn their fourth win on the season.

New York travels to Rochester with a 3-5 overall record, and last fell to Boston 16-12 on Friday, June 21 st. “They’re dangerous offensively,” said Coach Soudan. One player who makes that statement true is rookie attackman Rob Pannell, who has 16 points through four games for the Lizards. “Containing him will help us a lot,” said Soudan. The Rattlers defense will have to do just that to help earn a win on Sunday.

Rookie midfielder John Ranagan enters Sunday on fire after registering a career high four-goal performance against Hamilton last Saturday. “He’s awesome,” said Soudan. “He’s been fantastic for us.” Ranagan has recorded a hat trick in each of his last three games, and now has 10 goals on the season in only four games.

Sunday will also be the first game that Matt Striebel, Jordan MacIntosh, Ned Crotty, and Mike Manley will play after being selected to the 2013 All-Star Game presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill on June 24 th.

Already over half way into the season, and as the postseason push begins, the Rattlers sit outside the playoff field tied for fifth in the league with a 3-5 record. “It’s coming down to playoff mode for us,” said Soudan. “We don’t want to put ourselves in a position where we need to win out.” A win against New York would give Rochester their fourth on the season, and would move them one game closer to the fourth and final playoff spot.
