Ned Crotty Returns to MLL

Major League Lacrosse has announced that Ned Crotty will return to the league after an outstanding rookie season in 2010. The attackman won the title of Cascade Rookie of the Year for his league debut with the Chicago Machine. This year he’ll find a new home with the Rochester Rattlers.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back out on the field and getting the MLL season going,” Crotty said Tuesday in an interview with MLL. “We definitely didn’t end the year the way we wanted to [with the Machine], so I’m excited to start the 2011 season with the new Rochester Rattlers.”

Crotty was the first overall draft pick in the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft after winning the NCAA Division I Championship with the Duke Blue Devils. The attackman played in seven games last year for the Chicago Machine with 11 goals and 13 assists, earning him 24 points. He finished as the team’s third highest scorer behind only Kevin and Mike Leveille. MLL caught up with Crotty to discuss his return to the league.

MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE: What are your thoughts on playing for the Rochester Rattlers this year?

NED CROTTY: I am really excited to play for Rochester this summer. Upstate New York has a great following and has produced some of the best players in the game. We were fortunate enough to play one game there last year and the facilities and the crowd were fantastic so I know we are all really excited to be able to call Rochester our home.

MLL: What was it like to win the Cascade Rookie of the Year title last year?

NC: Being able to win the Rookie of The Year was a huge honor. Because there are only 6 teams in the league, just being able to make a roster spot and find your way onto the field as a rookie is an accomplishment. To be named the Rookie of The Year on top of that was just icing on the cake.

MLL: Have you set any new goals for the 2011 season?

NC:  This year my goals for the most part are still the same, to try and help the team be as productive as possible in the offensive end and try to make the best decisions I can from “X”. We have so many great leaders on top with so much experience that I don’t think I need to fill one of those roles, but after having a year under my belt I will speak up more and try to help where I can.

MLL: What’s it like to play at the professional level?

NC: I think my favorite thing about playing at the professional level is the talent that you are surrounded by. Last year I remember looking around the field a couple of times and thinking it was so cool that a lot of the guys out there were guys I grew up watching, or had recently played against. But again, because there are only six teams, it really is the best of the best out there making every game that much more exciting and fast-paced. It is also really cool to see how far the game has come and to be a part of that growth. Hopefully the game keeps on growing and can eventually get to the level of some of our other major professional sports.

The 2011 MLL season begins on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Want to know how to buy tickets? Click here for our tickets page.
