Rochester returns to Major League Lacrosse this Saturday night, May 14that 7PM, when the Rattlers visit the 2010 MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. The last time the Rattlers were in Major League Lacrosse Rochester won the 2008 MLL championship, but never had the chance to defend the title because the team moved out of town after the season. Last November Rob Clark, the Owner and CEO of the Adirondack Sports Club LLC, announced that the Chicago Machine would be moving to Rochester, New York and operating as the Rochester Rattlers for the 2011 MLL season.
Second-year attacker Ned Crotty will feature for the Rattlers this weekend. Crotty had an incredible year in 2010 that saw him: become the first player selected in the MLL Draft, win a national championship with the Duke Blue Devils, win a gold medal with Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships, and win the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Year award. He finished the season with 11 goals and 13 assists for the Chicago Machine. Veteran Matt Striebel will look to support Crotty from the midfield. Striebel has won three MLL championships and one MLL Championship game MVP in his ten-year career. He joined Crotty on the gold medal winning Team USA in the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships. Striebel posted 12 goals and 5 assists for the Chicago Machine last season.
The Chesapeake Bayhawks just announced a trade involving their 2010 leading scorer, Peet Poilon, this week. Poilon was traded to the Denver Outlaws for midfielder Dan Hardy. Hardy was the 2009 Cascade MLL Rookie of the Year. He recorded 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points last season with the Outlaws. Hardy joins a strong core of players as the Bayhawks look to defend the Steinfeld Trophy in 2011. Kyle Dixon (M) and Danny Glading (A) return to lead the Bayhawks attack. Dixon led Major League Lacrosse in two-point goals last year with 11 and finished fifth in scoring with 37 points while Glading finished the 2010 season with 15 goals and 11 assists.
