Offensive Player of the Week
Brendan Mundorf, Denver Outlaws

In leading the Outlaws to a convincing 15-7 victory over the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday night, Mundorf scored four goals and added four assists as Denver remained tied for first place in the MLL standings with a 4-1 record. Mundorf scored three of his four goals in the first half as Denver jumped out to a commanding 11-3 lead in the first half and never looked back. The MLL’s leading scorer with 14 goals and 23 points, Mundorf has tallied 18 of his 23 points against the Nationals this year.

Defensive Player of the Week
Brian Karalunas, Long Island Lizards

While helping the Long Island Lizards post a 14-11 victory over the defending MLL champion Chesapeake Bayhawks on Thursday night, Karalunas posted a season-high seven ground balls and was part of a Lizard defense that held midfielder Kyle Dixon without a goal for the second straight game. In addition, the Lizards limited Chesapeake to a season-low 11 points. He scored the first goal of his MLL career just 2:47 into the first quarter by converting a feed from midfielder Martin Cahill.

MLL News and Notes

HOME AND HOME: When the Hamilton Nationals and the Rochester Rattlers play in a home-and-home series this weekend, it will mark the fifth time in MLL history that two teams play in a home-and-home series within a single week. It will be the first time since the 2007 season when Los Angeles defeated San Francisco on consecutive nights. There have been two times when the teams have split a home-and-home series and in both cases, the road team won both games.

WELCOME HOME: After opening the season with a home victory over Rochester on May 14, the Chesapeake Bayhawks have spent the last four weeks on the road and will return to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday night to host the Boston Cannons. The Cannons handed the Bayhawks their first loss of the season on June 4, a 17-13 setback at Harvard Stadium.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: Through the first 14 games this season, the team that scores the game’s first goal has a 10-4 record. However, in last week’s games, the team that scored first lost in two of the three match-ups. Only Long Island was able to earn a win after taking the early lead.

ON THE HUNT: After posting just one goal in the Bayhawks’ first three games, midfielder Ben Hunt has exploded for nine goals and three assists, including a two-point marker, in the last two games. After a nine-point performance against Denver, the third-year midfielder tallied four goals in the Bayhawks’ 14-11 loss against Long Island last Thursday night. Hunt is tied for ninth in the MLL with 14 points.

OH CANADA!: Denver Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf has certainly enjoyed playing against Hamilton this season, tallying 18 of his MLL-leading 23 points in the Outlaws’ two victories. After opening the year with a six-goal, four-assist performance against Hamilton on May 14, he scored four goals with four assists in Saturday’s 15-7 victory at Robert Joyce Stadium, earning MLL Offensive Player of the Week honors.

TRIPLE THREAT: After his eight-point performance against Hamilton, Denver Outlaws attackman Brendan Mundorf is the league leader in goals, assists and points. He has scored 14 goals this year while contributing nine assists. He is one of two players who have tallied at least 20 points. Boston Cannons attackman Paul Rabil ranks second in the MLL with 21 points.

MILESTONES IN THE MAKING?: For Denver Outlaws attackman Drew Westervelt, this week’s game could provide him with a pair of personal milestones. He enters this week’s game needing two goals to reach 100 for his career and if he plays against Long Island this weekend, it would mark the 50th game of his MLL career. Westervelt is tied for second on the Outlaws with 14 points and has scored nine goals with five assists this year.

NOTHING GETS BY BURKE: In addition to leading the MLL in scoring offense through the first five weeks of the 2011 season, the Boston Cannons can also boast one of the league’s top goalkeepers as Jordan Burke leads the MLL with a .620 save percentage. Burke made 16 saves in the Cannons’ victory over Rochester on Saturday night. In the last two games, Burke has posted a .667 save percentage while averaging 10.00 goals allowed per game.

MAY THE SCHWARTZ[MAN] BE WITH YOU: Denver Outlaws goalkeeper Jesse Schwartzman has continued his stellar play this season and leads the MLL with a 9.62 goals against average. In addition, he ranks second in the MLL with a .614 save percentage. He has held opponents to under 10 goals in four of his five outings, including just five goals in 52 minutes against Hamilton on Saturday night.

30 SOMETHING: Through the first four weeks of the season, the Denver Outlaws and the Boston Cannons have been the most accurate shooting teams in the MLL. Denver leads the MLL with a .326 shooting percentage while Boston has converted on 30.4 per cent of its shots.

MISTER ASSISTER: After scoring a goal with an assist last week against Hamilton, Denver Outlaws attackman Brian Langtry begins this weekend needing three assists to become the 10th player in MLL history to tally 100 career assists. A 10-year veteran, Langtry has recorded 97 assists in his career, including 10 in each of the last two years. Langtry has scored 142 career goals, including 16 two-point markers, along with his 97 assists.
