Rattlers Win Second Straight with 15-8 Victory Over Denver

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rattlers won their second-straight game with a 15-8 victory over the Denver Outlaws on Saturday at Sahlen’s Stadium.

Attacker Ned Crotty led the way for the Rattlers with four goals and two assists, while Webster Schroeder graduate Grant Catalino added three goals – two of which were two point goals – and an assist to lift the Rattlers (2-7) to victory.

“I think we dominated what we set out to do,” Rattlers Head Coach Tim Soudan said. “Offensively we moved the ball really well and defensively we were very stingy. I think we dominated our objectives."

Max Seibald opened the scoring for Denver 3:13 into the game, but Crotty quickly answered that with a goal 71 seconds later to tie the game. Rochester would then open up the game with a goal from Jordan McBride at the 8:46 mark and a two-point goal from Catalino that gave the Rattlers a 4-1 lead.

Denver got one back with just over a minute to play in the quarter, but Crotty made sure the quarter ended on a positive note when he buried his shot with 9.4 seconds to play.

With Rochester already in charge and up 5-2 entering the second quarter, Catalino flung an underhand shot into the net from the left side of goal 3:27 into the quarter and Brett Garber added a goal five minutes later to give the Rattlers a 7-2 lead.

Crotty would score on each side of Outlaws attacker Drew Westervelt’s goal with 3:57 left in the half and the Rattlers took a 9-3 advantage into the half.

A slow start to the second half quickly grew into the two teams trading goals, starting with Westervelt’s goal 6:48 into the half. He would score two more in the quarter, but Catalino would add another two point goal – his second of the evening – in addition to goals from McBride and Cahill to give the Rattlers a 12-6 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.

Anthony Kelly scored just seven seconds into the fourth quarter for the Rattlers, who would not look back. Seibald and Brian Langty answered with two quick goals for Denver to make it 14-8, but Cahill scored 6:13 into the quarter for the game’s final goal.

Rattlers rookie goalie John Galloway has now given up just eight goals in each of the last two games. Last Saturday (July 16) the Rattlers defeated the Outlaws 9-8 at Invesco Field in Denver before holding Denver to eight goals once again at home on Saturday.

“The past two games the defense has given me shots I can see and shots I can save,” Galloway said. “Ultimately it’s about simplifying the things we are doing, limiting shots and relying on me to make those saves. Every once in a while I try to make one save that maybe I shouldn’t.”

Rochester next hits the road on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with a road game against the Long Island Lizards.
