The Cannon’s Kevin Buchanan scored the game tying with three seconds left in regulation and Boston’s Brad Ross won the game twenty-seven seconds into overtime to give the Cannons their ninth win of the year, 16-15, at Harvard Stadium on Saturday night. The Rattlers Martin Cahill had given Rochester the led with 2:49 left in the game. It was Cahill’s third goal of the game and his 19th of the season. The game was closely contested throughout. The largest lead was only two goals.
In a side story Boston’s Paul Rabil won Major League Lacrosse’s scoring title by one point 50-49 over the Rattlers Ned Crotty. Crotty entered the final game of the season with a one point lead over
Rabil, but Rabil posted three goals (one 2-point goal) and two assists for six points on Saturday night. Crotty had three goals and an assist for Rochester.
Boston got off to a quick start when Matt Poskay opened the scoring 1:01 into the first quarter off an assists from Brad Ross. Thirty seconds later Mike Stone made it 2-0 Cannons off an assist from Paul Rabil.
Matt Striebel opened the scoring for the Rattlers 3:23 into the quarter and Jovan Miller tied the game at two just over a minute later for Rochester.
Boston’s Max Quinzani and Rochester’s Ned Crotty exchanged goals before Paul Rabil put the Cannons ahead 4-3 with eighteen seconds left in the first quarter with a power play goal off a pass from Paul Buchanan.
Rattlers attack Ned Crotty tied the game at four 1:15 seconds into the second quarter.
Boston’s Kevin Buchanan responded just forty-five seconds later off an assist from Paul Rabil. Brian Farrell gave the Cannons a two point lead with 9:38 left in the first half.
The Rattlers rallied with a three point run off of a goal from Marty Cahill and two goals from Grant Catalino to give Rochester a 7-6 lead. Brad Ross tied the game at seven on a power play goal with 3:13 left in the first half, and Paul Rabil gave the Cannons a 9-7 lead at the half with a two point goal off of an assist from Ryan Boyle.
Rochester opened and closed the third quarter with a pair of goals. Jordan McBride and Crotty scored the first two goals of the quarter for the Rattlers. Ned Crotty’s goal gave him a hat trick in the game. Rookie Brian Caufield scored his first professional goal and McBride scored his second of the night to close out the scoring in the third quarter.
Boston scored three third quarter goals in just under five minutes to take a 12-11 lead into the final quarter. Paul Rabil Matt Poskay and Matt Stone scored the Cannons goals. Stone scored his goal off of an assist from Max Quinzani.
It only took the Rattlers 1:38 to tie the game at twelve off of an unassisted Matt Striebel goal. The Cannons responded by opening a two point lead off of a Max Quinzani power play goal and a Kevin Buchanan goal to give the Cannons a 14-12 lead with ten minutes left to play. Rattlers midfielder Marty Cahill scored fifty-one seconds later to cut the lead to one. Jordan McBride completed his hat trick to tie the game at fourteen with 4:12 left before Cahill gave the Rattlers a one goal lead with 2:49 on the clock.
Second year attack Ned Crotty finished the season with 20 assists and 49 points. His 20 assists are tenth best in Rattlers single season history. Hi 49 points are ninth best in Rattlers single season history.
