(Rochester NY) The Rochester Rattlers have acquired defensemen John Lade from the Boston Cannons in a trade today. The Boston Cannons acquired the Rattlers third round draft pick (19th overall) in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Entry Draft which will be held this January.
John Lade started all 45 games that he played at Syracuse University from 2009 to 2011. Lade won the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation’s most outstanding defensemen in 2011. He was a three time All-America and was named a USILA First Team All-American as a junior and senior in 2010 and 2011. He was also named First Team All-Big East as a junior and as a senior. Lade was part of an Orange defense that finished in the top four in goals-against average in each of his three seasons with Syracuse. In 2008 he was a member of a gold medal winning Team USA at the U19 ILF World Championships. He finished his three year career at Syracuse with 114 ground balls and 44 caused turnovers. Lade transferred to Syracuse after playing with Villanova his freshmen year.
“We are excited to have John Lade with the Rattlers next season. We love John’s pedigree and nastiness. That nastiness is something that our fans and organization crave in Rochester.” Rochester Rattlers Owner and General Manager Rob Clark said.
John Lade will join fellow Syracuse Orange alumni John Galloway and Joel White in the Rochester Rattlers defensive mix next season.
Lade was the sixteenth overall draft pick in the 2011 Major League Lacrosse Draft. He played three games at close defense for the Boston Cannons as a rookie this past season and collected three ground balls.
The 19th overall pick was the Rochester Rattlers original third round draft pick in the 2012 MLL Draft. The Rattlers still have the 18th overall pick in the MLL Draft after acquiring it from the Ohio Machine in a trade last week.
