Powell has not responded to inquiries from Inside Lacrosse about his plans for the upcoming season.
The Rochester Rattlers have the first pick in the draft, the result of an October trade with the Ohio Machine that sent Greg Bice, Anthony Kelly, Stefan Schroder and Brett Garber to Ohio. The Charlotte Hounds have the second pick in the Expansion Draft.
He made his return to competitive lacrosse this summer at the Lake Placid Summit Classic, playing for Open Division Champions Burning Orange. In early October in a podcast with IL's John Jiloty, Powell said he was "re-energized" and was considering a full-time return to the game.
He didn't disappoint in the LXM Pro event in Philadelphia in October providing the crowd with two highlight-reel plays.
“I felt OK, definitely a lot of rust but I’m playing lacrosse so it feels good, it feels really good,” Powell said after the game.
Powell had bowed out of the pro game after the 2008 season with the Boston Cannons. The four-time first-team All-American has won NCAA, World and MLL titles.
Powell also told Jiloty in the podcast that seeing his brother Casey Powell play in the MLL Championship -- a game in which Casey sold out on the final play of game and hurt his knee -- also fueled his fire to get back into the game. "I see some great opportunities to give back to this great game that's given me so much," he said.
Casey's injury did not require surgery, and he is currently on the protected roster of the Hamilton Nationals.
