Leveille breaks all-time record with double OT goal

ROCHESTER, NY (June 5, 2014)  Kevin Leveille came into the Rattlers season sitting 9 goals away from the league all-time scoring record, while also sitting two game-winning goals away from taking over that category.  Coming off of a hat trick game in his last outing, and leaning on his 11 years in the league to welcome in and mentor some of the best college players this season, Leveille was ready for a tough night against the defending league champion, and very hungry Chesapeake Bayhawks.

In a nail biting, tense back and forth battle that makes for great bedtime stories, #19 came through one more time.  He eventually produced another hat trick, but in astonishing and heroic like fashion he forced overtime with his record tying goal.  All in a day’s work for the quiet, unassuming captain of the 2014 team.  As the two teams fought to take the win in regulation, the grind kept going on.

Then, during the middle of the second overtime period, Leveille did what everyone was thinking, and hoping.  He put the ball in the back of the net for not only the biggest win of the season, but to break a record that puts his name at the top of the mountain.  As if it was pre-written, the story didn’t end there on this chilly evening in Downtown Rochester.  Leveille’s 271stgoal garnered him another record tying performance for most game winning goals.

It’s a great finish to what was a gritty, hard fought contest between an up and coming offensive juggernaut and a defending champion looking to find its groove again.  “It’s ok to have this record and everything, but what really matters is we won a very close game.  We lose this and we are looking at hard times.  We win, and we start elevating ourselves to the next level” Leveille said humbly to his cheering teammates.

Leveille has elevated himself to the next level, if that is even possible.  As the Rattlers continue to impress with some major additions to an already strong line-up, and the continuous All-World play of Goalie John Galloway (21 saves), Leveille is hoping to add another title to his already impressive resume, a 2014 MLL Championship.  Although there are a lot of games to be played in the remainder of the season, the captain and his cohorts seem well adjusted to the minor roster tweaks, and have come together as a very strong unit under such great guidance from their record setting teammate.

Rochester  travels to the Ohio Machine on June 14th, and will return back to Sahlens Stadium on Sunday, June 29that 1pm to face the currently undefeated Denver Outlaws.  Follow us on Facebook or Twitter @RattlersLax or call (585) 340-6905 for more ticket information.
