ROCHESTER, NY (Thursday, June 26, 2014)Early on in 2014, three members from Rochester’s roster were selected to represent their country as members of the 2014 USA Lacrosse Team. Following try-outs that began with 98 players, there are now only 30 that make the active roster. Those that were selected have the opportunity to compete in both the 2014 All-Star game against Team MLL in Boston tonight and the FIL World Championships in Denver next month.
Representing the Rattlers from Team USA are Goalie John Galloway (Syracuse), Attackman Kevin Leveille (UMASS) and Midfielder Dave Lawson (Duke). Each player is in the midst of a terrific 2014 campaign, well deserving of the nod to represent the Red, White and Blue this summer.
Galloway has remained undefeated at home, helping his team to the second best record in the MLL at 5-3. All while stopping a league leading 116 shots. Lawson has seen success as well totaling ten goals while being a dependable weapon in Rochester’s arsenal.
One of the biggest storylines of the 2014 season centers on captain, goal-leader, and record breaker Kevin Leveille. Leveille has reached two milestones halfway through the season, becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in MLL history and matching the record for most game-winning goals. Both feats were accomplished on one shot in a June 5
thdouble overtime win against the defending league champs Chesapeake Bayhawks.
Four more Rattlers have stood out on the roster through the first half of the season to earn them a spot on the Team MLL All-Star Roster. Midfielder Justin Turri (Duke), Faceoff Specialist John Ortolani (Endicott), and defensemen Mike Manley (Duke) and Joel White (Syracuse) will all suit up and represent the Rattlers in Boston tonight.
In his first year with the Ratz, Justin Turri has really come into his own. The former Duke Blue Devil is leading his team in points (23) and has already broken all of his previous career highs in major statistical categories.
Fellow MLL All-Star John Ortolani has proven to be among the league’s most elite players at the X. Lastly, the defensive duo of White and Manley have proven to be a stronghold against the league’s best offensive firepower, with Manley already being awarded Warrior’s Defensive Player of the Week twice so far this season.
All four players have established themselves as the league’s most elite stars in 2014, tonight they will join their three Rattlers’ teammates from Team USA on the biggest stage in the MLL.
Team USA takes on Team MLL tonight from Boston at 7:30pm. The game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
The All-Stars then return to regular action with their team Sunday June 29
th when Rochester faces off against Denver for a 1 pm matinee home game. The game corresponds with “Rattlers Carnival Day”, where an arrangement of festive games and entertainment will be available for those attending.
