The Rochester Rattlers will battle the Boston Cannons on Friday, June 7
th at KSU Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia at 8 p.m. for the first ever MLL game to be played in the Atlanta area.
After dropping their season opener to Chesapeake 17-14 in St. Petersburg, Florida on April 27
th, Friday’s game in Atlanta will be the Rattlers’ second game away from Rochester this season. “It’s a great opportunity for the organization to be exposed to a new market,” said reigning Warrior Defensive Player of the Week John Galloway. “We’re excited to see the turnout and excited to see the potential of the league spreading into Atlanta.”
Rochester is 10-10 all time against the Cannons, and both teams split in game play last year, each winning once in their two meetings. In the first matchup, the Rattlers fell to the Cannons 15-3 in their season opener, but earned a 17-16 overtime victory led by three goals each from Ned Crotty and Matt Striebel in their second meeting on June 1
Rochester travels to Atlanta after a 9-7 triumph over the Ohio Machine on Sunday, June 2
nd. Midfielder Jordan MacIntosh led the offense with three goals, while goalie John Galloway anchored the defense with 16 saves. The Rattlers’ will look for their second consecutive victory on the season against the Cannons. “For us to be able to mesh as a team, and to get this win to put us at .500 is a tremendous opportunity for us,” said Galloway.
Boston has not played since May 31
st, and is coming off a 24-14 defeat to the Denver Outlaws. Rochester will have the large task of putting a stop to midfielder Paul Rabil, who had seven points in the Cannons’ loss. “For us to be able to contain him is going to be a huge focus for us,” said Galloway. Rabil currently leads the league with 14 goals and nine assists for 25 points.
Former Duke standout and 2013 National Champion Dave Lawson will join the Rattlers in Atlanta as he will make his MLL debut, wearing number 44. Rochester face off man John Ortolani will be squaring off against his former team for which he spent his first four years in the MLL with. Ortolani was traded to Rochester late last year, and will be battling his former face off partner Chris Eck at midfield.
