Captain Leveille reflects on "outstanding" training camp

March 18, 2016
Albany, NY (April 7, 2014) – Rattlers Training Camp 2014 got underway at the University of Albany’s campus this past weekend.  Centered around single 3 hour sessions on both Saturday and Sunday, the look and feel of excitement was in the air as the MLL season grows near.  The Rochester Rattlers brought in approximately 40 players from around the country to vie for a roster spot.  Most were returning players from last year’s team, some that had been acquired during the off season and in addition there were players looking to make their mark with the coaches for the first time.

One of the key returning players was team captain Kevin Leveille.  Leveille led the on field activity, garnering and demanding the attention of both rookie and veteran players alike, showing why he is once again one of the team’s foremost leaders.  When asked about his impression of the first weekend of training camp, the captain was excited with what he saw.

“I thought we executed an outstanding training camp this weekend” Leveille said.  “When you only have two weekends together before you start to compete for the Steinfeld Trophy, you have to have a focus and efficiency in what you do to set yourself up for the season properly. We had a lot of new faces but I feel that, to a man, everyone came in focused, in good shape and ready to get after it.”

From the outset of camp beginning with warm ups on a windy and chilly afternoon, the players seemed energized and ready to make an impression.  The team looks to build off of their 2013 6-8 record, and it seems as though they are well on their way to doing that.

Leveille went onto to say “It was probably the best opening weekend of training camp that I recall being a part of. The key will be to keep the focus and build off of what we accomplished this weekend.  I’m excited and looking forward to next weekend, which includes a scrimmage against the Cannons. It’s great to be able to compete against different colors in training camp.”

The Rattlers host another weekend of camp and player evaluations this upcoming Saturday and Sunday in Albany.  On Saturday evening, the Rattlers will take on the Cannons in an MLL scrimmage at Union College, starting at approximately 8 pm.

The MLL season gets underway near the end of April, and the Rattlers open their season on the road against the Long Island Lizards.  They return at the end of the week for their home opener, taking on the Boston Cannons at Sahlen’s Stadium in downtown Rochester, with a 7:30 pm start time.
