Crunch Time: Rattlers vs. Lizards Preview

March 18, 2016

The Rochester Rattlers will begin their three game road trip to end the 2013 season on Saturday, July 27 th at 6:30 PM as they travel to James M. Shuart Stadium to take on the New York Lizards for the second time this season at 6:30 PM EST.

The Rattlers and Lizards met for this first time this year at Sahlen’s Stadium on June 30 th, where Rochester used a 6-1 second quarter to defeat New York 13-10. Attackman Kevin Leveille and rookie midfielder Dave Lawson both recorded five points for the Rattlers in the win.

Rochester heads to New York after just falling to Denver 12-9 in their final home game of the season on Saturday, July 20 th. Lawson and John Ranagan together combined for five goals, but were unable to complete a late comeback that handed the Rattlers their seventh loss of the season.

New York was also in action last Saturday, and hosts Rochester after falling to Charlotte 13-11. Last meeting against Rochester, Lizard’s leading scorer Rob Pannell scored four times against the Rattlers, and Rochester must find a way to contain the rookie All-Star to stay in the playoff race. New York sits one spot below Rochester in the MLL standings at 3-8, and a loss on Saturday would put New York one game further behind the Rattlers.

In the last meeting against New York on June 30 th, Kevin Leveille was named Warrior Offensive Player of the Week for his three-goal, two assist performance. Leveille has 12 goals and six assists on the season, and looks to repeat his June 30 th performance on Saturday. With his 14 th goal of the season against the Outlaws last weekend, John Ranagan is currently on a six game scoring streak. The red-hot rookie will look to extend his scoring streak to seven games against the Lizards. Rookie Dave Lawson is also on a scoring streak of his own, scoring at least one goal in his last five games, with eight goals in that span. Lawson will look to make it six games against New York.

With only three games remaining and only the top four teams in the league making the playoffs, sitting at sixth place with a 4-7 record, Rochester cannot afford to lose on Saturday. Rochester cannot clinch or be eliminated from the playoffs this weekend, but a win keeps Rochester in the playoff hunt.

Make sure to see the Rochester Rattlers take on the New York Lizards on Saturday, July 27 th, at 6:30 PM EST. You can catch all the action live on CBS Sports.
