Rochester Rattlers rookie goalie John Galloway has been named the Cascade Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. Galloway recorded a season and career high 19 saves in Rochester’s 9-8 win over the Denver Outlaws on Saturday night. His eight goals against was also a personal best. Galloway posted six saves in the second quarter and five saves in the fourth quarter, holding the Outlaws to one goal in each quarter.
Galloway made his professional debut in Major League Lacrosse on June 10
th against the Hamilton Nationals. He has started every game for the Rattlers since then logging over 336 minutes in goal. He has posted a 1-4 record with a 14.45 goals-against average and 85 saves.
John Galloway was a two-time first team All-American as a four-year starter in goal for Syracuse University. In 2008 he became only the fifth true freshmen to lead his team to an NCAA championship. In 2009 he became the only goalie in NCAA history to win the national championship as a freshmen and a sophomore. As a junior Galloway set a school record and led the nation in goals-against average (7.16) before he broke his own school record with a 6.70 goals-against average as a senior. He was the two-time Big East Goalie of the Year. Joey Galloway is the only goalie in Syracuse history to win the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award as the nation’s top goalie. He won the award in 2010 and 2011.
