Northern Educate is proud to announce the hiring of Western New York’s own Michael Manley as the Director of Lacrosse for its Rochester campus. Rochester’s 2012 Rookie of the Year, and 2013 MLL All-Star anchored the Rattlers defensive unit this season, picking up 30 groundballs, while also scoring three goals on the year.
Michael attended Penn Yan Academy in Upstate New York, and while there his accomplishments included three time High-School All- American in lacrosse while winning five straight Section V Championships. When not on the lacrosse field Michael was also a two- time All-American in Football, and won the AAA New York State Championship for hockey with the Rochester Americans youth hockey program in 2004.
Michael attended Duke University from 2007 to 2012. While there Michael was a two-time captain, and awarded the ACC Rookie of the Year Award in 2007. As a part of a very successful team, Michael and teammates attended five straight Final Fours, won three ACC Championships, and Michael was named a member of the all ACC Tournament team twice. One of Michael's proudest moments came in 2010 as Duke captured the 2010 National Championship. During that special weekend Michael was named as a member of the NCAA All Tournament Team. Throughout his career at Duke, Michael was awarded All American honors in 2010 and 2012.
Following graduation from Duke Michael was drafted 3rd overall as a defensemen in the MLL to the Rochester Rattlers. After the completion of his first season, Michael was named the Rochester Rattlers Rookie of the Year. This past season with the Rattlers, he was named to the All-Star Game in Charlotte. During the skills competition Michael participated in the fastest shot competition, shooting 110 MPH and finishing 2nd.
Michael was also Drafted 1st overall by the Philadelphia Wings in the NLL where he started every game as a Rookie Defensemen.
Michael has been an instructor at many camps throughout his summers and most recently coached at Mercyhurst University for the fall in 2012. As he continues his professional career, Michael is committed to the development of young men and women within the Northern Educate Lacrosse Academy and settling in Rochester for years to come.
Academically, Northern Educate Sports Academy offers individualized curriculum, challenging each student while working at their own pace to help them learn to the best of their ability. Because the student-to-teacher ratio is no more than 6:1, instructors are able to provide one-on- one help on a daily basis to ensure students are progressing on track and meeting the mandatory grade requirements.
"Every student is unique and learns at a different pace," said Dr. Shawn Black, co-founder and president of Northern Educate Sports Academy. "Our goal is to help each child excel in their studies and we provide the one-on-one attention they need in order to do so. We work with each child to ensure they achieve their full potential whether it's in their school work or on the ice or field."
Instructors will provide 480 hours of professionally developed on-ice/on-field curriculum based on decades of experience in a wide variety of individual skills. Every athlete will participate in the Athletic Performance Program and each day will work on their athleticism, agility and strength.

Northern Educate Sports Academies originated in Minnesota and is expanding their operations in fall 2013 to Rochester, NY, the first location throughout the Northeast to offer such a terrific opportunity.
