The (2-9) Ohio Machine look to sweep the (6-5) Rochester Rattlers at Sahlen’s Stadium on Saturday, July 28 at 7PM. Rattler M Matt Striebel is coming off a career game in a 14-5 win against the Charlotte Hounds as he became the all-time leader in MLL regular season games played. Striebel tallied two goals and two assists in his record 133 rd career game. Rochester is tied with Boston for the fourth and final playoff spot on the MLL table, and sits one game behind third place Long Island with three games left in 2012.
The Rattlers have made a surge in MLL going 4-1 since their 2-4 start. In that stretch, the Rattlers have scored 59 goals and conceded 53 goals.
Eight-year veteran A Kevin Leveille has played consistently for the Rattlers in the stretch by averaging three points per game. Leveille has scored 12 goals and tallied two assists in 2012. Leveille sat out for the 2011 MLL season, but returned to the Rattlers in 2012. He ranks third in league history with 242 career goals, and eighth with 313 career points.
First-year A Steven Boyle has emerged as an offensive threat for the Rattlers, as he’s scored 15 goals and added five assists as a starter in 2012. The Rattlers drafted Boyle with the third overall selection in the 2012 MLL Supplemental Draft on December 14. Before joining the Rattlers, Boyle had played in two games in 2010 with the Boston Cannons. Boyle scored two goals and added an assist in two games with the Cannons as a full-time fifth year college student at Johns Hopkins University.
Superstars Ned Crotty and Striebel continue to lead the Rattlers in scoring. Crotty leads the team 27 points with 14 goals and 13 assists in nine games, three of which he missed significant time in the first half of the season, tying him for 21
st most points in 2012 with Denver A Jordan McBride. Striebel has played in every game for the Rattlers this season scoring 11 goals (5-2ptG) and tallying eight assists.
The Machine are coming off an 11-7 loss to the first place Chesapeake Bayhawks; the only team to beat the Rattlers in the past five games. Goalie Brain Phipps made 17 saves and FO Eric O’Brien won 12-19, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Bayhawks in the final minutes. MLL’s all-time leader in in two-point goals, Kyle Dixon, scored his MLL record 12
th two-point goal at 12:36. Machine M Connor Martin scored a two-point goal with less than two-minutes left, but the Bayhawks would not allow another as time wound down. The Machine fell to 1-5 at home since their opener against the Rattlers, the worst in the MLL.
The Rochester Rattlers will be wearing custom made blue helmets in Saturday night’s game. The Rattlers are teaming with Rochester Urology Associates to raise awareness of the fight against prostate cancer in the community. The auction will be run by Go Buy Rochester, and there will be laptops set up on the concourse for fans interested in making a bid. Bidding will continue online after the game, and proceeds will go to benefit Lipson Cancer Center and Project Zero.
Urology Associates will also be will also have a custom painted car on site Saturday night for their “Pound Out Prostate Cancer” promotion. Fans can pay $5 to hit the car with a sledge hammer with all proceeds going to the fight against prostate cancer. Oxford Train will be playing during the pre-game happy hour and drafts will be $1 until the battle at the X.
