Rattlers Look to Expand the Game

March 18, 2016
The game of lacrosse is ever expanding, and continues to be the fastest growing sport in America. New teams are continuing to be added every year, and the amount of televised games continues to rise. While previously predominantly North Eastern States, players from Florida, Texas, California, and others are no strangers to collegiate rosters. This weekend, Denver University has earned a trip to the Final Four, and a NCAA Championship victory would have shifted the lacrosse power west to the Mile High City.

To keep up with this growing trend, this year the Rochester Rattlers have decided to take their game to new markets and play two games outside the usual MLL lacrosse hemisphere. The Rattler’s opened their 2013 season with a trip to St. Petersburg Florida on April 27th, where they fell to the Chesapeake Bayhawks, 17-14. On June 7th, the Rattlers will continue their expansion, as they will take on the Boston Cannons in Kennesaw, Georgia.
With two of the Rattlers’ games this year being in the South, and not in an MLL city, Rochester is really making an attempt to bring the game of lacrosse to new areas. With these games being played, Rochester hopes they can open up the eyes of new markets, and hopefully expand and spread the game into these new regions. With the rapid current growth of the game, these games only seem to perfectly fit lacrosse’s fast expanding nature.
Rochester is not in action this weekend, but be sure to catch the Rattler’s home on Sunday, June 2nd as they next take on the Ohio Machine at 5 PM at Sahlen’s Stadium. Season tickets, group packages, and flex packages are available by calling the Rattlers box office, and for more ticket information please contact 585.454.5424 or check out for more information.
