ROCHESTER, NY (July 5, 2014) Beating the best team in the league is a difficult thing to accomplish in the MLL, but defeating them handily and convincingly is something else. That’s what happened last weekend as the Rochester Rattlers handed the Denver Outlaws their second loss of the season 17-14, and proved that there is a lot more parity between the two teams than critics thought.
As the Rattlers visit American Legion Memorial Stadium on Independence Day weekend, they will look to build on their dominating week 9 offensive performance as they take on the Charlotte Hounds (4-5) in North Carolina. Rochester’s Mark Cockerton is coming off a Rookie of the Week performance with 6 goals, alongside former Duke Blue Devils Jordan Wolf (3G 1A) and Dave Lawson (4G 2A) posting strong numbers as well.
The Hounds are hoping to continue their forward momentum coming off of their big home win over the Boston Cannons last week 15-12. They sit 2.5 games out of first place, and look to capitalize on the strong play of Defensive Player of the Week Ryan Flanagan. Flanagan this year has been a force to reckon with on the faceoff wing and through 9 games leads all Hounds players with 36 groundballs. That total also is good enough for fourth in the league among all defensemen. Flanagan in 2014 was named to his third-straight MLL All-Star Game.
Tonight’s game takes place at American Legion Stadium in Charlotte, NC and start time is 7 pm. The game can be watched on ESPN3.com.
