Rochester Hosts Hamilton

March 18, 2016
The Rochester Rattlers are back in action at Sahlen’s Stadium Friday June 10 th at 7:30PM.  The Rattlers are off to an 0-2 start in 2011, but have reinforced their roster by adding seven draft picks.  Rochester is dressing rookies John Galloway, Jovan Miller, and Joel White for the first time this weekend.  All three hail from Syracuse University.  “We’re excited about these three guys coming down the Thruway to help us out.  They’re all players who have the potential to step in and make an impact right away.” Rattlers head coach BJ O’Hara said.

Joel White is the Rochester Rattlers first round draft choice.  White was a three time All-American defensive midfielder at Syracuse.  White became the first defensive specialist to win the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin, Jr. award as the nation’s top midfielder.  Jovan Miller, the Ratters second round pick, was a two-time All-American and a two-time National Champion with the Orange.  Miller finished his career with 35 goals and 29 assists for 64 points while collecting 117 ground balls.  John Galloway, the Rattlers fourth round pick, was a two-time first team All-American as a four-year starter in goal for Syracuse.  In 2009 he became the only goalie in NCAA history to win the national championship as a freshmen and a sophomore.  John Galloway is the only goalie in Syracuse history to win the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award as the nation’s top goalie.  He won the award in 2010 and 2011.

“Galloway and White were Tewaaraton Trophy finalists so they were among the five best players in the country this past spring, and Miller was a two-time All-American.  These guys are among the best players in the country at their positions. Galloway came in for the first time last weekend, and he looked great on Saturday and Sunday.”  Rattlers coach BJ O’Hara said.

The Rochester Rattlers have been led in their first two games of the MLL season by second-year attacker Ned Crotty.  Crotty has scored 5 goals on 11 shots and has added 2 assists for 7 points.  Crotty is 10th in MLL in goals despite playing one less game than seven of the players in front of him.  Jovan Miller will be joining a midfield that already has the attacking talents of Martin Cahill and Matt Striebel.  Cahill scored four goals in the Rattlers home opener against Long Island, and Striebel has 2 goals and 2 assists on the season.  Joel White will be joining a defense anchored by Greg Bice and Diogo Godoi.  Bice leads the team in ground balls while Godoi scooped a game-high five ground balls in the home opener.

“It will be good to get back underway after having two weeks off.  We felt like we were moving in the right direction after our first two games of the season.”  Rattler head coach BJ O’Hara said.
