Three Rattlers in All-Star Game

Matt Striebel, Steve DeNapoli, and Joel White will compete in the 2012 MLL All-Star game presented by Moe’s Southwest Grille at FAU Stadium in Palm Beach County, Fl. on Saturday, June 30 th. DeNapoli and White will play in their first All-Star game, while Striebel will play in his eighth consecutive All-Star game. 

 

The game will feature a Young Guns vs. Old School format in which players who joined the league between 2001 and 2008 will compete for Old School, and players who joined between 2009 and 2012 will play for the Young Guns. In 2012 MLL allowed fans to vote for the players for the first time, which accounted for one third of the overall voting process.

 

Midfielder  Matt Striebel will set an MLL All-Star Game record by playing in his eighth All-Star Game.  Striebel is the fifth player in MLL history to play in at least six All-Star Games.  Striebel has scored three goals and recorded five assists in All-Star games.  This season, Striebel has recorded 13 points with seven goals (4 2ptg) and two assists.  He is second in points for the Rattlers behind former All-Star attackman Ned Crotty (14).

First-year Rattler SSDM Steve DeNapoli will play in his first All-Star game in just his second season in MLL. DeNapoli has seven goals and eight points this season. The Rattlers acquired DeNapoli from the Chesapeake Bayhawks for the rights to draftee Joe Cummings and an undisclosed draft pick in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Entry Draft in the offseason. The Bayhawks drafted DeNapoli from Hofstra with the 30 th pick in the 2011 MLL draft.

 

Joel White, who is also in his second MLL season, has continued his defensive dominance from his 2011 standout rookie season. White leads the Rattlers with 22 groundballs, and has six points off three goals and three assists in only four games.  As a rookie, White finished 2011 second in ground balls with 71. The Rattlers drafted White with the second overall pick in the 2011 MLL draft from Syracuse University.White was a three time All-American and a two time National Champion with the Orange.

 

The MLL All-Star Game will be live on ESPN2 at 7:30PM.
