ROCHESTER, NY (Friday, August 15, 2014) The time has finally arrived, and the game is almost here. The 2014 Rochester Rattlers Lacrosse franchise is everything that wasn’t supposed to be, and more. Off field improvement in operations, marketing, overall fan experience and attendance are added bonuses to what is an amazing story on the field for the Black and Gold.
The Rattlers ended the 2013 campaign with a disappointing 6-8 record. That, along with a few very important off season moves and draft picks have provided a story line that is so important when turning around a struggling sports franchise. The on field product is truly remarkable, entertaining and important to the final chapters of a great year.
Coach Tim Soudan has led the charge to bring the franchise its first appearance in the playoffs and a championship since it last won the title in 2008. The road to get here has been bumpy, but the 2014 MLL Coach of the Year has stayed on course with his message of a “team first” attitude.
That message, along with strong locker room leaders and fiery young talent have created the self-proclaimed and very close nit “Ratz.” It is the moniker that follows them from their hometowns, to the host hotel, to the locker room and onto the field. The chant of “Go Ratz” can be heard prior to each game, and after almost every player interview. The players even demand each other to wear their “Ratz Hatz” everywhere they go, in honor of the bond they have created in the town they nicknamed "Roch Vegas."
The first place team faces its toughest challenge of the year, now going against an opponent that swept them in the regular season series. The Ohio Machine are a strong force to be reckoned with, and will present a very big obstacle for the Rattlers this coming Saturday afternoon.
Rochester faces Ohio at Aquinas Institute’s Wegmans Stadium at 3pm on Saturday, August 16th. This is a one game, semi-final appearance with the winning team going to the MLL Championship Game on August 23
rdin Atlanta. They will face the winner of the NY Lizards vs. Denver Outlaws in that game.
