Two Teams Could Clinch Playoff Spots Tonight

March 17, 2016
With five games left, it’s crunch time for all teams to secure a spot in the post season. No teams have been eliminated yet; nor have any teams clinched a spot, but tonight's games could change that.

The Boston Cannons sit comfortably at the top of the league; they can clinch a play-off birth with a win over Long Island (2-5) tonight, and Boston has been cruising. Their 15 – 12 win on July 3rd over the No. 2 Denver puts them on a five game win streak. The Lizards have lost their last two match-ups. The two have met twice this season and Boston has won them both, 15 – 12 in their first matchup but then crushing them 19-8 in their most recent game.

Denver (5-2) is also hoping for a Cannons win. With a Lizards loss and a win against last place Rochester, Denver would secure a play-off spot with four games to go. But the Rattlers are playing for more, a loss this week and their play-off hopes are over. The two have never met this season and will match up two weeks in a row. So if the Rattlers find a way to slow down the Outlaws' red-hot offense tonight, they have a chance to fight their way into the play-off hunt.

Hamilton and Chesapeake are battling for third place. Both teams are 4 – 3 and two games ahead of the Lizards, who are hoping to knock one of them out to get in the play-offs themselves. Neither team can clinch tonight, but their head-to-head record could become important down the road, especially if Long Island makes a late season play-off run. They have matched up once before this season, Bayhawks took it 14 – 10, but that was back in week 2.
