Rattlers take on Outlaws in final home game

The (7-4) Rochester Rattlers play their final home game of 2012 against the (9-3) Denver Outlaws on Saturday, August 4 that 7 PM in Sahlen’s Stadium. The Rattlers are 5-1 at home this season, and have gone 4-1 since their 12-16 loss to the Outlaws on June 16 th. The Outlaws are on a four game winning streak since June 29 th, and sit in second on the MLL table.  Boston and Rochester are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with two games left in the 2012 season.

In the team’s first meeting at INVESCO Field at Mile High, the Outlaws were led by star A Brendan Mundorf. Mundrof scored eight points off of six goals and two assists in the win. Mundorf has 50 points on the season for the Outlaws with 26 goals and 24 assists; enough for second place in MLL for scoring.    

The Rattlers played mostly without star A Ned Crotty on June 16 th.  Crotty left the game with a knee injury in the middle of the third quarter, and did not return against the Outlaws.  The only time Crotty hasn’t scored a point this season was against Denver.  M Brad Ross led the Rattlers with a hat trick with a two-point goal for four points in the teams’ first meeting. A Kevin Leveille scored two goals and had one assist in the loss. 

The Outlaws can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Rattlers or a Cannons loss.  The Outlaws are 4-1 when facing teams for a second time in the 2012 season.

Rattler M Matt Striebel has largely contributed to the Rattlers second-half of the season push towards the playoffs offensively.  Striebel scored six points on two goals (2 2-pt goal) and two assists in the Rattler 14-13 win against the Ohio Machine on July 28 th.  In his last five games, Striebel has scored six goals (3 2-pt goal) while tallying seven assists.   The eleven year MLL veteran knows what it takes to win, as he has won three MLL Championships and an MLL Championship Game MVP award.

The Outlaws last loss was on June 23 rdto the Long Island Lizards. The Rattlers swept the Lizards in back-to-back games on June 7 thand 8 th.

In 2012, the Rattlers have the highest percentage in penalty killing.  The Rattlers man-down unit has killed off 30 of 34 (88.24%) penalties this season.  Against Ohio, the Rattlers went three for six in man-up situations while their man-down unit killed two penalties. The Rattlers also boast the best home record in MLL at Sahlen’s Stadium.  Their only home loss for the Rattlers was on July 14 thto first-place Chesapeake. Chesapeake clinched a playoff spot after winning in Ohio 11-7 on July 21 st.

The Boston Cannons will face the Ohio Machine in their last two games. The Rattlers finish the 2012 season against Charlotte Saturday, August 11 at American Legion Memorial Stadium.  The Cannons and Rattlers trail the Lizards by one game on the MLL table. The Lizards play their final two games on the road against Chesapeake and Hamilton. The first MLL playoff games will be played August 25 th, and the final will be played at 3 PM the next day.
